Powder Chutes (nee Better Than Nothing) travelled over the hill to the Central Soundwave battle of the bands competition in November 2020, held at Yonder, and came away with the coveted prize of a slot on the Wanaka main stage on New Year's Eve.
It was a frantic and joyous live event with bands and solo artists from mostly Queenstown, but also Cromwell, and Powder Chutes representing the Wanaka collective.
Other bands on the bill included Haven, The Train Surfers, The Cavemen, No Man's Land, and Estrogen (nee The Four Roses).
The event was hosted by the Rockformation Charitable Trust, which was formed in 2009 by a small group of Queenstown music enthusiasts with the aim to encourage young contemporary musicians to develop skills and confidence by providing performance opportunities.
The crowd were spoilt with an impromptu jam session at the end, comprised of rotating members of Powder Chutes, Haven, The Trainsurfers and The Cavemen, whilst the judges deliberated... not so much a Battle of the Bands, as a Celebration of the Bands!
